Sadly, earlier this week, theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking had passed away at his home in the UK aged 76. The world will not be a same place without him. The video game community got together in EVE Online to pay tribute by lighting beacons across the game’s area of space. In reference to one of multiple well known quotes he had said, “Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet”.
The idea behind this was Reddit user kairiola who made the suggestion of lighting cynos across the map as their way of tribute for one of the greatest minds this world has ever seen.
The actual beacons themselves are used to travel at warp speed throughout the map. When using a cynosural beacon they emit a whole lot of light. If you are close by when this occurs you can see how bright these actually are, but if they all go off at once they create a awe-inspiring sight that makes for a gorgeous sight.

As you can see from the image above, it was a spectacular sight to behold. I have never played EVE Online and I only know one person that does but it’s something I could only imagine how beautiful it had looked.
