The biggest game in the world right now is Fortnite. Twitch recently confirmed that it’s the most watched game on their platform. We also seen Twitch get it’s most subscribed streamer, Ninja, by playing Fortnite. Not only that, celebrities are getting in on the action with Drake streaming with Ninja also. It’s huge right now. So what’s better then a new platform, a platform that nearly everyone owns. Fortnite Mobile is finally here!
Fortnite Mobile is not officially out. Epic Games is currently rolling it out for testing purposes on the iOS platform. I managed to grab a few codes, then I got a beta invite and then got my friend invites. P.S…they’re already taken.
I’ve had 2 days on it so far. And….it runs surprisingly well! When it was first announced for mobile that it was coming to cross-play with PC and console also, my goodness I thought that was it…that Epic Games had gone crazy. Mobile games aren’t my forte, never really been keen on them however I have hammered Fortnite that I had to at least give it a shot. Everything seems the same. I run a iPhone X so it would be expected to run the smoothest on here. It’s the same game just ported over just with some jagged edges and some slightly different layout to the overlay.
One thing I did notice is that the distance you can see at, it works well, you can see people at a distance. Surprising a mobile phone could pull off something like this or even render that much and run fine.
One thing I did notice was the very Destiny-esque locator on screen. Obviously there is no 7.1 headset to track where people are coming from so when someone is near you, you can see on the screen where there footsteps are. Handy.
One annoyance for me and may be for many is the buttons. There are a lot of actions you can do in Fortnite so on Fortnite Mobile these had to be implemented and the overlay is just covered in buttons. There has been time my thumb slipped when moving and just suddenly stopped. Moving the camera, accidently doing a few 360 turns, making me think i’m a pro 360 no scope-r. However, all the matches so far I have managed to kill 1 person in each. So i’m 1 for 1 right now. Closest I came was a top 10 finish but that was 1 kill and not coming across anyone else till I reached 10 players left, not a major challenge really. I have to give the auto lock on credit, it helps massively but it isn’t OP, you still have to direct that lock.
You can still build, albeit a bit more fiddly, don’t be expecting quick forts anytime soon either. I found that I wasn’t addicted but wouldn’t mind a match here and there and actually coming back to it. I would still choose a console or PC any day, so much easier and I feel more superior getting kills on those over mobile but to fill my void when i’m away from home I still have this handy.
I don’t think I have came across a PC player yet but there was one point someone dodged all my bullets from a SMG, ran up with a pump and shot and killed in one shot. Master mobile player? Maybe, PC player? My best excuse. You can see who struggles with the concept of it being on mobile, it ain’t easy!
All I can say is, it is Fortnite, it’s the same game, same concept, you just have to get used to it again. If you haven’t done so yet, get signed up over here.
