There has been a long-standing rumor that E3 is dying as a yearly event. While this is proven by how much it has grown with attendee’s year on year, it is proven by the fact of how many announcements come around, how many big announcements they are and how many companies actually make an appearance. Next year, Sony has confirmed they will not be at E3, and in my eye’s it may well be their last.
This will hurt E3 and may show that other big companies may begin to drop out for their own shows.
Sony also skipped on this years PlayStation Experience. Many were claiming there was not enough content to show, however, if you look at their exclusives they have announced that has not been released yet, there is still quite a lot Sony has to offer. So what is Sony up to?
E3 stated this in regards to Sony and PlayStation:
“As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community,” said Sony in a statement. “PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.”
